Rainbows End Childcare

Child Care

April/May 2014

Over the next couple of months I will be rating my environment using the FCCERS scales.. I have yet to attend the the final day of the course, which will be on April 26th. I've really enjoyed the course so far and am keen to make improvements and see the results.

Our focus over the next couple of months will be Spring & mini beasts. We've been watching our caterpillars grow and they are now chrysalis's. We will be going to Gaston Farm to see the baby animals and we will be doing some Easter Crafts. Our mud kitchen will be making it's debut in April., I'm just waiting to lay our new outdoor carpet under the pergola.

I am attending a SEN briefing in May to learn of all the recent changes in the law relating to Special Education Needs.

February/March 2014

Due to the amount of rain we've been having, I thought we'd make the most of it by doing a "Wellington Boot" theme. Our activities will cover the entire EYFS outcomes and we will also include Valentines Day, Mothers Day and Pancake Day activities. This week the children made some beautiful hand and foot print hearts.

We are also taking part in the 2014 Grow Your Own Potatoes event. We have received our free growing kit and just await the 25th February to start chitting! Currently our garden is out of bounds as the weather has caused havoc and I need time to sort it out and tidy it up. I have purchased a mud kitchen and can't wait to let the children out there to cook up some original mud recipes! I am starting to introduce some Forest School activities to the children. Last Friday we went up to Pulborough Brooks, did some puddle jumping and environment exploring. It's a great place to explore and we look forward to going into the woods on our next visit. During half term we will be visiting Slindon woods for some tree climbing and den building activities.
I'm in the process of creating a small playroom which will extend into the hallway (we've always used the hallway for displays and activities) We will still use the main room for eating in. The children will be able to choose their toys/activities more easily having the bulk of resources inside.
I am booked onto a FCCERS-R course which will start in March. This is a 3 day course which will be on Saturdays over a period of time.

November/December 2013

Being such a busy period on the run up to Christmas I have decided not to have one specific focus. We will celebrate any up and coming festivals, we will work on our scrapbook that will show how unique and special we all are and from December 1st through to Christmas we will be joined by The Elf on the Shelf! I'm really looking forward to the fun we will have with our Elf, Malachi!

Oscar our travelling bear has had a revamp and has a new passport so is eagerly awaiting his first trip.
I'm slowly (very slowly due to being so busy with other things) getting around Baby's Days system. There were some initial problems with parents not being able to set up a pin code but this should now be resolved. I'm hoping all parents will get involved and find the system useful.
I've finished the basic Makaton course and am hoping to do the next level next year. I really enjoyed it and have started using a couple of simple signs with the children which they all seem to be picking up. I've also been on a few EYFS related courses during September and October and am booked onto a 2 part "Specific Areas" course in November. This will be my last course of 2013!
Finally, I'm currently gets quotes from painters and decorators to refresh our setting. I'm also looking into converting the porch into a proper weatherproof porch that I can utilise for work. If anyone has any recommendations for builders I'd be grateful for names and numbers.
